"natural birth is not just the absence of medical intervention, it is the presence of support, respect and a woman's unyielding trust in her own body"

My path to sovereign birth work

My passion and interest in birth work started when I was 11 years old and a show called Baby Boom came out, a reality show about pregnancy and birth, and yes, it was my favorite show to watch. I knew then and there I would work in the birth world one day, I just didn’t know how yet. I started college as a midwife nursing major but quickly realized that it was not my destiny. I ended up receiving my degree in education but knew I would go become a doula along the way. Through years of studying, listening to podcasts, hearing women's stories and diving deep into the history of obstetrics, I learned that my heart belongs with sovereign, uninterrupted births. I started my photography business in 2023 and mainly focused on maternity and weddings as well. I went and trained as a birth doula and decided to start a birth photography business.

my philosophy

My philosophy is grounded in the belief that the power of birth inherently belongs to the mother and her baby. As a doula, my role is not to dictate decisions or impose directions, but to support and witness the mother as she births in power. I hold that trust should always reside with the mother, affirming her autonomy and strength throughout the birthing process.

What is sovereign birth?

Sovereign birth, to me, embodies the essence of birthing with complete power and autonomy. It signifies that the sole opinions, decisions, and perspectives that hold significance in the birthing process are those of the mother. In today’s medical landscape, there is a prevailing belief that a woman requires external perspectives and expertise to navigate childbirth. However, this notion overlooks the intrinsic capability of the female body to birth and the natural readiness of the infant to be born, with or without medical interventions.

It is important to acknowledge that each woman’s journey is unique, and she should follow the path that she feels is right for her. If that involves placing trust in others, her choice is valid and deserving of respect. As a sovereign birth keeper and photographer, my approach is to enter the birth space with a commitment to witness, support, and document the natural progression of the birthing process, honoring the unique experience of each mother.
